The first 5 things to know about the Nexus 6P

The Nexus 6P looks to be the best Nexus ever, and we'll have a lot to say about it using a lot of words. It deserves all of them.

But there are a few things you need to know right away, and we've got the top five things you need to know right here in one handy spot. Have a read!

The first five things to know about the Nexus 6P

This thing is a fingerprint magnet

And we're not talking about Nexus Imprint.

Some of us get a little twitchy when our phones are covered head to toe, front and back, with greasy fingerprints. If this sounds like you, go ahead and buy a microfiber towelette or two to carry around.

You'll be needing it to wipe all of your grubby fingerprints off of your new Nexus 6P.

I ordered a dozen.

The metal casing gets hot if you set it in direct sunlight

Nexus 6P heat

Science, yo!

This is nothing new for people who currently use (or have used) a phone with a body that's predominantly metal. Your new Nexus 6P will get very warm if you have it in direct sunlight.

We don't think it gets hot enough to affect anything, and it's not going to cook an egg, but it can get uncomfortably warm — like those vinyl booty-searing seats in your car on a summer day kinda warm.

A case will help, or keep it in the shade. Just remember that metal gets hot out in the sun.

Pay close attention when setting up Nexus Imprint

Nexus Imprint is fast, but you need to pay close attention to the setup.

Just like the Nexus 5X Imprint setup, you only get six captures to set up a finger, so it's important to get as much of the finger as possible. Try to make sure you have a large portion of your fingerprint on the reader for each pass. The setup directions are clear and easy to follow, so follow them.

Taking time to set things up correctly means Nexus Imprint will be more accurate and consistent. Accuracy and consistency will help with the "learning" process Google's Dave Burke talked about when the Nexus 6P was announced.

Take your time here.

AMOLED screens aren't color perfect

Nexus 6P

Ours leans a bit on the blue side. Yours could be a little yellow. Maybe even a little purple.

AMOLED screens have an incredible ability to pop and make your eyes say wowza when you look at bright colors. But they also can be a little oversaturated in the red, green or blue (or a combination of one or more). You'll really only notice on a pure white background, and your model may be perfect.

We see this on every phone that uses an AMOLED display, and usually things aren't bad enough to worry about. It's a nature of the beast kind of thing.

If your Nexus 6P screen is just too blue, or purple, or green, send it back.

We like the display on the Nexus 6P

We just mentioned that our screen is a little blue. But seriously, that's an AMOLED thing and it doesn't mean the display isn't great. Because it is.

The Nexus 6P display is beautiful in almost every situation. Even in direct sunlight, it's plenty readable and perfectly fine for normal use.

We're not going to call it the best display ever on a smartphone, because it's not. But it is a really nice display, and chances are you'll be pretty happy looking at all the things you want to look at on your new phone.

Best. Nexus. Screen. Ever.
