US Cellular announces plans for 7 Android phones, tablets by 2012

Regional carrier US Cellular has hardly been slacking in the Android department, recently adding the likes of the venerable HTC Merge to its stable. And it's just getting started. In a news release, USCC announced its intentions to launch seven more Android smartphones by the end of the year. Of those seven phones, one will include its first 4G device, expected in November.

Here's the breakdown:

  • HTC will have three Android devices on USCC -- two smartphones, and a 7-inch tablet, presumably, the Flyer.
  • Motorola's bringing a 4.3-inch device with a dual-core 1GHz processor and world phone capabilities.
  • And LG is said to be bringing "one of the slimmest and lightest smartphones," with a 1GHz processor, 4-inch touchscreen and "ultra-bright LCD display that is easy to view in sunlight." Sounds like the Optimus Black to us.
  • In addition, there will be entry-level phones from Samsung and Huawei.

So that makes seven phones, folks -- and while they might not be top-of-the-line at the end of the year, they certainly don't sound like anything to scoff at.
