Sony Mobile's leader says rumors of division's sale are 'completely untrue'

In January, Reuters reported that Sony was now open to some new options for its mobile division, including a possible sale or a joint venture. Those reports seem to be confirmed by Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai earlier this month. Today, Reuters says that Totoki, in speaking with the French daily newspaper Le Figaro, addressed those reports, stating, "It's completely untrue."

However, Totoki did admit in the interview that Sony Mobile's product lines are too diverse and that the division will slow down on the number of their product releases from now on. This was due in part to customers who are now keeping their smartphones for a longer period of time.

Sony has recently indicated it would focus its efforts on its profitable divisions like image sensors, gaming and entertainment.
