Samsung Galaxy Victory

We've received a few more specs for the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE, an upcoming (but as yet unannounced) Sprint Android smartphone whose existence we revealed on Saturday.

Until now, all we had was the name, the suffix of which obviously (and obtusely) points out that it'll run on Sprint's fledgling 4G LTE network. Thanks to a tipster, we can now nail down a few more details:

  • The Galaxy Victory will have a 4-inch display. That's decidedly smaller than the Galaxy S3 with its 4.8-inch display. No word yet on the technology behind the display.
  • It'll be running Android 4.0, with TouchWiz atop it. No surprise there, and we'd expect it to be announced (and eventually launch) with one of the updated versions of Ice Cream Sandwich. As for a possible upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean before launch? We wouldn't bet the farm on it. But then again it's not like we have any dates for the phone in the first place.
  • The Galaxy Victory will have NFC on board. the Android Beam feature inherent to Ice Cream Sandwich will be there as well, as will Samsung's own S Beam, which uses NFC to initiate a Wifi-direct connection to another S Beam-enabled device, like the Galaxy S3. (Figure this will be a standard feature in new Samsung phones at this point.)
  • Judging from the renders on the pages sent to us, it'll be lacking a physical home button, and it appears to have four capacitive buttons below the display.
  • It'll have Google Wallet at its disposal.

That's still pretty thin. So we've got a 4-inch Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone with NFC, Google Wallet and TouchWiz, and it looks like it'll only have capacitive buttons. All in all, a mid-range 2012 Samsung smartphone, we gather. But let's hold off any sort of real judgment until this thing's official and in our hot little hands, we suppose.

We've got more screenies after the break for your perusal.

Thanks, anon!

Samsung Victory... Really?

How Ironic is that Name...

There will be NO more Victories for us as far as Smartphones are concerned..

It appears there is about to be a Fundamental Shift in Power...

Shift in power from a smartphone standpoint I must say is laughable at best. Apple and it's useless iphone has been played out for years. Samsung has controlled this space for a while now. With the upcoming Galaxy Note 2 as well as the upcoming Galaxy Nexus 2 to go along with the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note clearly shows how ancient apple has become. The only people buying Iphones are people who have no real knowledge of technology. Even with the new iphone coming apple is clearly and after thought.

Have to agree with you here. Apple sold over 30 million iPhones (probably a combo of all three) in the first quarter after its release.

So, looking at the trend line, it's safe to say that they will do as well as last year.

Ipony phones have now become like the nokia phones of old. A phone for clueless people, technophobes and old people.

Wow. What a blanket statement. I have used both technologies, and I can assure you that I am far from clueless.

I am in my final year of graduate school and have programmed using c++, cplex, opl, etc.

I like iOS and Android for different reasons. I am also looking forward to Windows Phone 8.

+1 on this. Thank goodness they remember there are business professionals out there that use Android and wear dress slacks and not Old Navy cargos.

Plus as mentioned you can multitask and use a 4-4.25" with one hand while walking to you next meeting with your briefcase.

SAMSUNG, HTC please don't forget about us business users!

bahaha - can get a ribbed gel case for it.

This isn't a bad phone, my wife was very reluctant to go to S3 because of the size - this would have appealed to her. SAMMY has not had the success LG has had with low to midrange and seems all the rehash of re-re-releases or neutering the phone to meet a price point like Galaxy s 4G Stratosphere and intrigue and transform(s) have not had the volume to gain the developer support, heck even SAMMY is deciding if the models were worth updating the one major upgrade promised.

Hopefully this can Catch the Fire and fingers crossed that the screen is comprable or exceeds Epic - the other neutered also had weird resolutions like the Optimus .

Have to agree with you. I think that I have pretty standard hands (me being 6' tall). I have trouble reaching the top right of the screen on my old samsung fascinate.

I really wish that OEM's would make some smaller phones (loved the original droid incredible). It's also the reason why I am currently using the iPhone 4s.

Although I really dislike the new layout of iOS 6. Probably not going to upgrade.

It might be a blanket statement but its true I work in media and all the creative wannabie hipster types and executives have iponey phones all the engineers android phones.

So, this is basically true in your profession?

Just remember that these people have probably chosen to use the iPhone because it's quick, easy and allows them to do their job. The engineers probably love to tinker.

Just difference of preference. I say let them use whatever works best for them :)

I also saw a grandmother the other day rocking an S3. Awesome!

It's disgraceful to see how ignorant most of you are here. I see why iOS individuals bash android users with the stupid remarks I see posted here and in other threads. iPhones work for some and not for others, just like the Android works for some and not others. Do more people use the iPhone as a fashion statement moreso than androids, I would def say so but there are still tons of legitimate people that use the iPhone and use it for its full capabilities. On another note; I have been wanting a solid 4" device to come out but after having a 4.8" device, I don't think I could go any smaller.
