OnHub is Google's new Wi-Fi router that's supposed to offer better connections

Google is getting into the Wi-Fi router business with the just revealed OnHub. The router was developed in partnership with TP-LINK, and is designed to be easy to set up and use and is supposed to offer users better wireless connections.

Google said they wanted to make OnHub look different than the typical router, with none of the usual blinking lights or external antennas. Instead, the OnHub, which comes in blue and black colors, looks a little like a drinking cup. It has internal antennas and what the company calls "subtle, useful lighting"

More importantly, OnHub is supposed to automatically offer the best Wi-Fi connection for a home's Internet:

During setup, OnHub searches the airwaves and selects the best channel for the fastest connection. A unique antenna design and smart software keep working in the background, automatically adjusting OnHub to avoid interference and keep your network at peak performance. You can even prioritize a device, so that your most important activity — like streaming your favorite show — gets the fastest speed.

OnHub will use a special app called Google On that will be launched for both Android and iOS to manage the router:

The Google On app tells you how much bandwidth your devices are using, lets you run a network check, and if there's an issue with your Wi-Fi, the app offers suggestions to help. And, instead of lost passwords and sticky notes, it even reveals your password with a single tap and lets you text or email it to friends.

Finally, OnHub has been made to automatically download and install new updates to the router. OnHub will sell for $199.99 and is currently available for pre-order on the Google Store, Amazon, and other retailers in the US and will be available in retail stores in the US and Canada in the coming weeks.

This will be just the first hardware product from Google under the OnHub brand. In fact, it has already revealed that it has partnered with ASUS for its next unrevealed OnHub product.
