Kunimasa Suzuki to depart as leader of Sony's mobile division Nov. 16

Sony will have a new leader of its mobile devices division on November 16, as the company announced today that Kunimasa Suzuki will leave that position for a new job as executive vice president of Sony Entertainment. Its Senior Vice President Hiroki Totoki will take over Sony's mobile division duties.

In a statement to the Wall Street Journal, a Sony spokesperson said

In light of the global mobile market that is rapidly becoming competitive and difficult, we need to make our business profitable. Chief Executive Officer Kazuo Hirai judged Mr. Totoki, who has a proven track of record in turning the business profitable, is the most suited for the job.

Sony recently announced that it was forecasting a $2.1 billion loss for its latest financial year. It has certainly struggled to gain a foothold in the smartphone and tablet markets with its Xperia series of devices. The company just launched its Xperia Z3 lineup in September. Exactly what Tokoki can do to reverse this trend has yet to be revealed. What is your opinion on Sony's smartphones and tablets and what can they do to improve them?
