Archos and the Chipmunks

Yes. Those are chipmunks holding the 7-inch, Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Archos Child Pad. We'll get to them in a minute. For now, know that the Child Pad is available as of today for $129. Yeah, it's a couple months late. (We'll forgive you for not remembering that it originally was to be released at the end of March.) But, look! Chipmunks!

Let's start with the important specs. You'll have access to "specific" "Alvin and the Chipmunks 3" content. (Presumably "general" "Alvin and the Chipmunks 3" content will be available in the places where you'd usually find "Alvin and the Chipmunks 3" content.) That includes behind-the-scenes clips, photos from the set, wallpapers and online games. There's also a 6-month trial of a parental control application from Editions Profil. Angry Birds are on board (of course), as well as other "educational and general-knowledge" apps.

Oh, and it's got a 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage, if you're into that sort of thing. You can find out more and order your very own Child Pad at the link below.

Alvin and the Chipmunks-themed Archos Child Pad available now for $129

This is a breed of tablets I've been waiting for as I think m'boy "needs" something like this if for no other reason than to get my phone out of his sticky hands. I've thought of doing a Nook or Fire, but durability is spec #1 I'd be looking for (it'd also need an SD slot and an integrated "child lock" which I assume is included in this 6-month trial software but it really should just be part of the launcher imo).

Also, I'd be willing to pay $150 if we can loose the chipmunks. Is the cost being kept down/subsidized by the Chipmunk theme? The only chipmunks I abide are Chip and Dale.

The resistive touchscreen ruins it for most people. I think you'd be much better off with a kindle fire or nook tablet for$50 more (than your $150 you mentioned) or a nook color for only a few bucks more.

Every time I see an article on Android Central talking about a new device I always wait to see that inevitable comment "I wonder if I could root this sucker" Ah my #AndroidArmy, gots to love ya

Too bad about the resistive touch screen. That's been the major sticking point of just about any other cheap Android tablet I've tried to give my daughter. More screen response and impatient children to not make a good combo.

My kid is going to have ICS before I do? What the heck?!?

Wait, this is a resistive display? Nevermind, no he won't.

oh wow its finally out. my mother in law has been waiting for this for too long. doesent matter if it has a resistive screen. shes buying it and yes great having speaker on front archos

We got our 5 and 7 year olds nook tablets for christmas last year, one which is rooted. much more bang for your buck then these. and with the protection plans with the nook why not go with that.

The Nook Tablet is a better tablet, but it's twice as expensive. If you only have $250 to spend, it might be worth it to get two of these rather than make your kids fight over... er, "share" just one Nook!

it is resistive....that totally blows!!!!

I'd pay $150 for capacitive! I gues My kid is getting a Fire...maybe a sammy 7"

Wow, was just about to pull the trigger for my nephew because he loves playing with my phone. Until I read people's comments on it being resistive. He gets frustrated sometimes that the controls don't work the way he wants for some games, can you imagine him trying with a resisitive touch screen!!! It better be durable because he'd be chucking it across the room. Damn, was sooo close to finding his bday present :-(
